Cawston Ostrich Farm, South Pasadena

Taken around 1925 – that’s my dad, 3rd kid from the left, being held by my grandma – don’t know the middle woman, but that’s grandma’s brother, Mack, with the hat. My Aunt Eunie (Dad’s sis) is the little girl on the cart, and I don’t know who the next kid is. I looked up the Cawston Ostrich Farm, and found it opened in 1896 and closed in the late 1920’s. I love this photo and was delighted to find it among the old family albums my step mom keeps. Wonder if there’s a Vintage Kids with Ostrichs group to join at flickr?…. (candyruth)

This aircraft is a Sikorsky S-40 “Flying Forest.” Sikorsky made 3 of these aircraft for Pan Am. They were used on the Miami to Panama run in the 1930s.
